Psilocybin Therapy

Why we can’t use the term therapy when talking about Psilocybin.

Oregon’s Stance on Psilocybin “Therapy”

Oregon, is known for its progressive attitude towards many forms of therapy and treatment, has taken a cautious approach towards the term "psilocybin therapy." Despite the growing body of research indicating the potential therapeutic benefits of psilocybin, the state has opted to exercise prudence in its regulation and usage.
The decision not to allow the term "psilocybin therapy" is rooted in a desire to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. Psilocybin, the psychoactive compound found in certain mushrooms, presents unique challenges due to its hallucinogenic properties and potential for misuse.
At the same time, Oregon recognizes the need to explore alternative and potentially groundbreaking treatment options for mental health conditions. While the term "psilocybin therapy" may not currently be permitted, the state remains open to ongoing research and carefully monitored, evidence-based applications of psilocybin in a therapeutic context.
By withholding endorsement of the term "psilocybin therapy," Oregon strives to maintain a balance between innovation and prudence, prioritizing the welfare of its residents while not closing the door on future possibilities.
